American Sales for Nintendo Switch Highest in January

Whether it was Boxing Day sales or post-Christmas blues, we may never know—but the sales results are in from NPD for January, showing that the Nintendo Switch led the way with most units sold for the month after Christmas.

It’s interesting to see its sales so strong at this point in its lift cycle, almost a year after release—the success of the console was definitely questioned before launch, based on all the issues surrounding the Wii U’s launch and subsequent software (or lack thereof)—but here we are and the console is going strong.

Whether the console will be able to maintain its market share into the year ahead is another matter entirely, but strong first party titles and remarkable third party support have definitely assisted Nintendo’s public profile and the perception of the Switch among gamers and non-gamers alike. It’ll be interesting to see where the year takes it.

Dave will tell you that he likes to play video games, this is in fact a lie. What he really likes to do is buy games, and leaving them sitting unopened on his shelf. He is a monster.
