Final Fantasy VIII Remastered Digital-Only

It was at E3 2019 that Square Enix revealed their plan to release Final Fantasy VIII Remastered on the Nintendo Switch (and other platforms), and rumors quickly began to spread about the possibility of a physical release for the beloved game.

In fact, even developer DotEmu replied to a fan’s question about a hard copy in such a way that seemed to lean positively toward it—so when Play-Asia opened pre-orders, we thought it was a done deal.

Sorry to say… this isn’t the case. Square Enix confirmed on its Japanese site that the game will be a digital-only release. In fact, the release is just around the corner on September 3rd, so maybe the fact that no one had seen any box art or received pricing information should have been indicative of the company’s plans.

Either way, here’s the latest trailer:

Dave will tell you that he likes to play video games, this is in fact a lie. What he really likes to do is buy games, and leaving them sitting unopened on his shelf. He is a monster.
