MegaMan Legends 3 joins Universe

In another example of a big 3DS title being cancelled before it comes out, MegaMan Legends 3 has joined the list.  In a letter to fans thanking them for support, Capcom has laid it out:

From the outset the MML3 Project was intended to give gamers across the world insight and input into the development process. Part of this process includes an assessment of whether the title will go into full production, and is based on a number of criteria with input from different sectors of the company.

Unfortunately it was not felt that the Mega Man Legends 3 Project met the required criteria, and it is with regret that we must announce that the Mega Man Legends 3 Project has been cancelled, meaning that Capcom will not be releasing the Prototype or the full game.

Now you may be wondering why anyone really cares, as the Legends series hasn’t really been legend (wait for it) dary, and the last instalment wasn’t really what most people would call a good game.  However, because of the massive amount of fan input and the openness of the development there was a great hope that this would lead to an excellent game for MegaMan fans.  As of now, that just won’t be happening.  With no MegaMan in Marvel vs Capcom 3, the cancellation of Megaman Universe and now the cancellation of MegaMan Legends 3, it hasn’t really been the best run for the blue bomber.  This has prompted many to ask if it is related to the October 2010 departure of Inafune from Capcom, the man behind these projects.  Capcom answered this question with a resounding no, but it may be an overly simplistic question to ask.   Perhaps the equation wasn’t: Inafune leaves = cancelled games, but it could have easily been: Inafune leaves     -> Projects loose creative leadership -> Projects flounder -> sub-par games are produced = cancelled games.  Any ideas when we’ll see the next full size project for MegaMan?  Or for that matter, if we’re going to see him on the 3DS at all?
