Any idea what Massively Single Player means? Nintendo does.

Time for more fun with patents!

Gamespot has let us know of a patent that was granted last week for what Nintendo calls a ‘massively single player’ game. Sounds a little odd, but Nintendo is never one to back down from a weird idea, so what are they talking about? The patent gives a couple ideas:

A game in which your actions impact the worlds of others who are playing the same game, a game with an economy affected by supply and demand or one in which materials that you find and turn into a house will be seen just as a house by the next player to come along, instead of the pile of stuff that you found.  Interesting things, and implementable into an Animal Crossing type of game for sure.  It also mentioned the possibility of interacting with other people only if you’d ‘friended’ them, which would certainly cut down on the background noise of multiplayer.

It also briefly mentioned  ‘a home video game system such as the Nintendo Wii 3D video game system, a Nintendo DS or other 3D capable interactive computer graphics display systems’. Nintendo has been against glasses-3D, so this is a bit odd.  Typo or foreshadowing?
