As previously reported, the 3DS firmware update we all got a few weeks ago added more than Swapnote and 3D video, it also gave Nintendo time to allow the 3DS eShop to hold demos of games. Which is fantastic and absolutely needed. Personally I think every eShop game and every retail game should have a demo (ala Xbox Live) but they have to walk before they run, right?
From a post over on the Capcom community site Unity, it looks like the first demo we’re going to get over here in North America (There are a bunch in Japan already, but no other region has any yet) is Resident Evil: Revelations. There is a bit of speculation that it’ll land on the 19th, but that remains to be seen.
This has been far too long coming, but I hope that it marks a flood of demos. It’s something I’ve always loved about Xbox Live and always found frustrating with Playstation Network, WiiWare, DSiWare and PC digital distribution like Steam. Ubiquitous demos are a fantastic thing, they may cause some people to pass on your game, but if it’s a good game that deserves to be purchased it will increase sales. If Nintendo is really serious about stepping it up for the ‘hardcore’ gamers, this is something they need, and soon.
