Dry Those Tears, CryEngine 3 Runs “Beautifully”

Even though we’ve heard that Crytek won’t be making any games themselves for the Wii U, that doesn’t mean we won’t see the fantastic CryEngine 3 – known for powering the Crysis games – on the Wii U in the future.

Apparently, the engine “runs beautifully” on the system, and there’s a rumor of a “respected developer” having a game underway using the platform for the system. Crytek itself is going to a free-to-play model once their current games are finished, so that’s why we won’t see their work on the system anytime soon… so who’s the mystery developer?

Crytek CEO Cevat Yerli deflected concerns that the Wii U doesn’t have enough juice to compete with the current generation of HD console systems: “From my perspective I do not understand the public’s concerns that the Wii U is weaker than PS3 and 360. That I cannot see. From my perspective the Wii U is minimum as powerful as Xbox 360.”

Well, that’s good news! Now we just have to wait and see who’s using the engine…
