Despite not knowing when the game will actually be released, the anticipation for Super Smash Bros. on Wii U and 3DS is steadily building to a fever pitch with each week. Helping this along is Masahiro Sakurai’s daily image uploads, featuring new scenes from the games to tantalize excited future players.
One rumbling around the Nintendo-verse as of late has been the thought that Super Smash Bros. would be made just that much more awesome if it paid some type of homage to what’s being considered as the best Mario games ever released—the Mario Galaxy titles.
We’ve seen little hints in various screens, but now Sakurai has published an image to confirm all those suspicions. In a Miiverse post, he also followed that up with this:
“Pic of the day. A new stage, Mario Galaxy!! The pull of gravity emanates from the center of the planet, so this will require using brand-new tactics.”
The gravity in Super Mario Galaxy and Super Mario Galaxy 2 was a defining feature of the games, so figuring that out in this Super Smash Bros. stage should prove entertaining, to say the least.
The picture and confirmation given are for the Wii U, so at this point we’re not certain whether the new stage extends to the 3DS version of the game, since each game has its own unique stages—but it would be quite silly if they didn’t.
