Pre-Orders Open for New 3DS XL Models

Nintendo has announced an NES-themed 3DS XL model for North America. Let that sink in for a moment. Yes, even if you’re not a proud owner of a 3DS yet (why not?), this design is sure to turn your head at least a little… and maybe cause money to spontaneously jump out of your wallet.

The NES-themed handheld comes alongside a Persona Q model and the two Super Smash Bros. XL models we’ve previously reported on.

Pre-orders are now open for these exclusives at the various retailers that will be offering them, each one priced at a standard $199.99. As a reminder, none of them come with games—they’re just new, shiny themed handhelds (not that there’s anything wrong with that).

Here’s the list of releases for these babies:

  • Red Smash Bros. 3DS XL – Best Buy, releases Sept. 19th
  • Blue Smash Bros. 3DS XL – Best Buy, releases Sept. 19th
  • NES 3DS XL – GameStop, releases Oct. 10th
  • Persona Q 3DS XL – GameStop, releases Nov. 25th

The only real tricky decision now is… do you shell out for one of these beauties, or do you hold off for the arrival of the New Nintendo 3DS in 2015? Because as lovely as the special editions are, holiday sales might slump a little as folks hold off for the new handheld version next year.

Or maybe not… depends how amazing these special editions look in person, doesn’t it? Yeah, you know it does.
