Will There Be Enough Switch Consoles for Christmas? Reggie Non-Committal

Nintendo of America head honcho Reggie Fils-Aime isn’t quite playing Scrooge this year, but he’s definitely not getting anyone’s hopes up for a Merry Christmas filled with Nintendo Switch consoles on store shelves (or online retailers). If you were planning to buy one for somebody, we’re going to suggest you start your search early—like, now—because this is what he had to say when speaking to Variety about the demand and the current supply:

“Certainly the demand is there, and our supply chain is there [to hit the 10 million goal]. Are we going to have enough for the holiday? That’s what we are focused on.”

If you recall, earlier this year Nintendo made promises to ship 10 million units by the end of 2017, so that’s what he’s referring to. Since this is the first year with the Switch on store shelves, it’s very important for Nintendo and the continued success of the console to have units available—especially with the stream of hit games over the past six months—so we’re rooting for Nintendo to be able to make this happen.
