Although it was unexpected, it shouldn’t have been a surprise when Nintendo and DeNA announced they were working on a mobile version of Mario Kart. The details on the game are far and few between (we’d go so far as to say “nil”), but the ear-to-the-ground savvy of Takashi Mochizuki of The Wall Street Journal has given up one specific piece of insider information:
DeNA CEO said “Mario Kart Tour,” a Nintendo-DeNA smartphone game planned for FY18, will be free-to-start.

Yep, the game will be “free to start.” Not that this is surprising in any way, Nintendo has already done something similar with its existing smartphone games—Super Mario Run was literally unplayable past a certain point without spending money.
How much will you have to shell out for the entire game? Who knows. Might want to start saving now, though.
