Customer Reviews, We Hardly Knew Ye

Last week, in move that we’ve never seen from Nintendo before, user reviews were added to select Switch games on the company’s North American website.

But just as quickly as they appeared on the site, they’ve been removed—the feature has been pulled, and this statement from Nintendo left in its place:

“Customer reviews have been taken offline as we evaluate this feature and its functionality. We currently have no estimated date on when an update will be provided. We appreciate the positive response and thank the reviewers who provided such thoughtful commentary on the games.”

Well, okay, Nintendo—what’s the actual deal here? We’re curious as to what sparked this sudden backpedal… trolls in the review section? Folks saying too many unfavorable things? Difficult to police or not enough of the games having the review feature? It’s definitely odd, but hopefully Nintendo resolves whatever issue it had and restores this function. Allowing reviews is an excellent way to maintain community engagement, and also encourages game sales moving into the future.
